Lake Washington - Our Favorite Neighbor!

The 101 is located just a quick stroll from the shores of Lake Washington and that lake is a pretty great neighbor.  Beautiful to look at and lots of fun to play in when the sun comes out. The lake also provides us with some beautiful views from our roof top deck and apartment homes, no matter what the weather.  Though to be fair, it is really the best on those sunny Puget Sound days when we light up the fire pits and the grills.

Did you know that the lake was named after George Washington in 1854?  And it is actually the second largest lake in the state, Lake Chelan takes the prize for being the largest lake in Washington.  Here are some fast facts about Lake Washington you can use to impress your friends:

  • It is 22 miles long
  • The average depth is 108 feet but its 214 feet at its deepest point
  • Lake Geneva, Lake Duwamish and Hyas Chuck (a Chinook name that means, appropriately, Big Lake) were some of the lakes original names
  • It is a known as a ribbon lake because it is long, narrow and finger like
  • Its great for fishing - for Coastal Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, and Black Crappie

So whether you like swimming, boating, fishing or just enjoying the view, Lake Washington is a gem and we are glad The 101 is so close by!
